St.John's Church community

St. John’s Church Vellore, located within the historic Vellore Fort, has a rich history spanning over 175 years. The church’s origins can be traced back even further to a small Christian community of British East India Company officers and soldiers who gathered for worship within the fort. Over time, St. John’s has grown from these humble beginnings to serve a diverse congregation, including visitors from across India and abroad. As the only English-speaking congregation in the Diocese of Vellore under the Church of South India, St. John’s Church Vellore offers a unique ecumenical worship experience, welcoming Christians from various denominations and regions. The church also supports other congregations and institutions within the Vellore Diocese and beyond. Notably, St. John’s Church Vellore celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2021.
